John Talbot
"John Talbot was born June 28, 1851, in Preston, England. The son of William Talbot and Mary Ogden. He came to America in 1860 as an orphan with his seven year old brother, Thomas. They probably settled first in Henry, Marshall County, Illinois. He came to the Roberts area, Ford County, Illinois about 1872. With Joseph Hurst and William Hurst vouching for John Talbot’s character, he became a citizen of the United States on October 16, 1876.
The History of Ford county, Vol II, Page 867 states that John Talbot was born June 28, 1851 one of two sons born to William and Mary Ogden Talbot. The other son, Thomas, was born in 1853. Also that Mary died when John was four years old. The boys were cared for by an aunt part of the time and put in an orphanage the rest of the time. No other records to date have been found. There have been some family records that state there was a half brother named Robert Talbot who may have lived in Indiana.

Mary Hurst was born in Malden, Bureau County, Illinois, November 19, 1857. She came to the Roberts area with her parents, Joseph Hurst and Harriet Harvey in 1858. John Talbot and Mary Hurst were married January 25, 1877 in Gibson City, Ford County, Illinois, by E. A. Hamilton, Minister of the M.E. Church. They started farming in 1877 on the Williams farm, Section 29, Lyman Twp., three miles southwest of Roberts. They stayed on that farm until they moved to Roberts in 1911. In 1895 John purchased a farm in Section 4, Lyman Twp., three miles north of Roberts. John died February 19, 1915. Mary died March 30, 1931. Both are buried in Lyman Cemetery, Roberts, Illinois.
Their children: Thomas, Joseph, Warren, Walter, Mary Helen, Elmer Ralph. "

"Gottlieb Hahn was my great, great grandfather. His son Conrad (brother to Wm. pictured) was my great grandfather. Next came Mable Hahn my grandmother who married James Trimble my grandfather. The Hahns came from Germany and prospered in agriculture in Illinois. The state honored Gottlieb with master farmer award in 1880-90s. Not many Hahn descendants are left in Ford county today, as all 9 children moved out of the area except my grandparents . . . "

"I don't know anything about the man in this old photo, except that he probably was a member of the Blesch, Fencken, Gurrad, or Zimmerman families. Can anyone help me?"
