Hurst Wakelin Photos
Lady on left, Adelaide Hurst Wakelin. Lady on right, possibly Adelaide's sister, Mary Hurst Talbot. Lady in the middle not identified. Do you recognize her? James Lossing believes this photo was taken at the Wakelin home on East Green Street in Roberts.
Adelaide Hurst Wakelin on the right with Peanuts the dog. Photo possibly around 1908. Anyone recognize the taller lady? Again the location is probably at the Wakelin home on East Green Street.
So the Wakelin family home was behind where Jean Fox currently lives and where Louise Arnold used to live. This would be on the north side of East Green Street. "Church" on the corner, then looks like W. Shambrook, then W. L. Wakelin with a large lot. Jean Fox notes on the RIH FB page about these photos with the Wakelin home that "Wakelin's house is Sara's home now..."

Colteaux, Squires, Waldschmidt
From James Lossing:
Seeing on the blog the newspaper clipping of Wilfred Colteaux, I thought I would send these pictures of him in 1927 when their family was visiting Roberts people in California. I think the Colteaux family visited several times before they came to California to live for a while.
In the long picture of the Roberts Reunion at Brookside Park, Wilfred is seated eighth from the left. His mother is seated third from the right and his sister seventh from the right. His father, John Colteaux is standing in the back fourth from the right. (Below)
The picture below must have been taken that same day because John is wearing the same clothes. (Below)
The first picture below is with the Waldschmidt and Squires families. Left to right Edna Colteaux behind Jeannette, Henry, Sadie, and Norman Waldschmidt in a column, Clara Vivian Squires, her parents Mae and Clarence (C. O.), Sarah Jane Ridge Squires (widow of Philip Squires), Wilfred and Glenn Squires. Sadie Waldschmidt and Mae Squires are Wakelin sisters.
The second picture must have been takin in 1927 also. It looks like another get together of Roberts people. Wilfred is on the right in front, and his mother and sister are also sitting in front. Three of the Wakelin sisters are there: Genevieve Weaver, Sadie Waldschmidt, and Della Lossing.

Roberts, ILL. Society Reunion
I have read articles about this group of Roberts families that all moved to California and kept in touch.
ROBERTS, ILL. SOCIETY REUNION BROOKSIDE PARK APRIL 3, 1927.
From James Lossing: "People who moved to southern California kept in touch and got together a number of times. This one in 1927 must have been a special occasion.
Most of the Wakelins are here, also John Colteaux and family."

Possibly "The Grove," not sure.

Do You Remember
Away Back When in the spring of 1872, J. B. Meserve purchased a lot and had a home built in the Village of Roberts which was a new town being built on the Gilman, Clinton & Springfield Railway? And do you know that the home he built then was torn down this week after having served its purpose for sixty-six years more than half a century of which it was known as the William Wakelin home? Thus is one more old land mark gone.

Roberts 1894
Photos were taken right after the fire of 1894, the reason so many people in the village.
From L to R: Meat Market, est. 1865; W. H. Wakelin (says dry goods * notions * ? * shoes * groceries * flour * salt); Next building says Groceries * Notions; next is a sign on post - Dentist; followed by R.B. Chambers; ? ; ? ; and finally Colteaux's Restaurant. After that was the school building on the corner.
The R.B. Chambers building is the current Schooney's bar. Of all the buildings in the photo, that is the only one that remains.
The school was on the corner where the bank stands today. That is the school bell tower.
